Positive Trends in School Food, Pt. 2

By Rochelle Davis, Founding Executive Director

Yesterday, I shared my excitement about findings in the 10th annual trend report recently released by the School Nutrition Association showing how healthy food continues to increase in popularity.  I do not want to neglect some other interesting notes from this report.

The report found that food service departments are becoming much more environmentally responsible, with 42 percent adopting energy efficiency measures, 38 percent adopting recycling and 20 percent adopting green procurement programs,  including green cleaning.

We have been sensing this trend in green cleaning  -- that is why the Second Edition of The Quick and Easy Guide in Green Cleaning in Schools contains a new section on green cleaning for food service. (Click here to order this brand-new edition!)

It's great to see school food service departments take steps to preserve the environment and protect children's environmental health in addition to promoting wellness.
