Renee Blanchard

Hi,

My name is Renee Blanchard and I am the Childproofing Our Communities Coordinator at CHEJ. This issue is of extreme importance to the health of our children and the USAToday articles are showing that this issue is an epidemic. It is happening all over the country.

What worries me the most is that our governments are ignoring how hazardous siting a school on or near a contaminated area is to our entire community. There are have been studies about what the economic impacts are of not preventing environmental health harms to our children and the numbers are pretty startling.

The good news is that there are things you can do today to help.

(1) Get informed and read the article
(2) Send a letter to your congressional representative here: http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/852/t/2096/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=26318
(3) Sign up to take action in your community here: http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/852/t/2098/signUp.jsp?key=3921

Thank you for the time and energy you put into this important issue.

Renee Blanchard

P.S. CHEJ also released model school siting guidelines that you can use in your community. I've gotten some emails from mothers submitting them to their state representative and local school board. You can find the guidelines here: http://www.childproofing.org/school_siting_model_legislation.htm
