Today, students in high schools across Chicago will notice something
new on the menu in their school cafeteria: a lunch designed by their
peers at Tilden Career Community High School. The tasty, healthy lunch
of chicken vegetable jambalaya, cucumber salad and jalapeno cornbread
won first place at HSC's Cooking up Change healthy cooking contest in
Oct. 2009.
The winning student chefs from Tilden will celebrate at their school today with community leaders, advocates, elected officials and members of Chicago's culinary community. Later this year, they will travel to Washington, DC to meet with White House assistant chef Sam Kass and spread the word about their vision for how tasty and healthy school food can be.
